Sari Palmgren graduated with master degree from the Theatre Academy of Finland, Department of dance in 2004. Since then she has been working as a choreographer, dancer and dance teacher in Finland and abroad. She is working widely in the dance field: with stage works, immersive and site specific works, theatre, different social choreography projects and dance films. Since august 2023 Sari Palmgren has been working as artistic director at Routa Company.
Sari Palmgren has got Arts Promotion centre Finland's three year artistic grant 2016-2018 and 2020-2022. Palmgren has been as in-house choreographer at Zodiak – Center for New Dance 2019-2021.
Her latest works are MUR (Routa Company 2024), Attack and defense strategies (Routa Company 2023), Utopian empathy (Zodiak – Center for New Dance 2021, since 2015 with different companies/festivals), Joy Riot (Zodiak – Center for New Dance 2020), Lame Tamer (Routa dance company 2019), Fenced dreams (Zodiak – Center for New Dance, Kanneltalo, Helsinki Festival & Villa Arttu 2017-2019, Kajaani 2023), Licking things (Zodiak – Center for New Dance 2016), Home videos (MNO-videoproject: Zodiak – Center for New Dance and city of Helsinki 2012-2015 ), Connective Patterns (Dance film 2015 and solo Zodiak – Center for New Dance 2009), Mortal road movie (Routa dance company 2014),The Earth Song (Tour 2016-2017, Zodiak – Center for New Dance 2013), Lost, Missing and Forgotten (South-Korea SIDance festival 2012) and My name is- community dance project (Zodiak – Center for New Dance and city of Helsinki 2012-2018). Her latest solo work was Animal motion (Zodiak – Center for New Dance 2010). The solo has been touring around Finland and in China. Sari Palmgren has collaborated with other choreographers in different social choreography events, such as U.N.I.(You and I) project 2009, Sunday Brunch 2010 and organizing Mamuska Helsinki events since 2008 in Zodiak together with other artists.
Palmgren has also been working in Finnish national theatre, Kajaani, Helsinki, Turku and Lappeenranta city theatres and Q-theatre as an actor/dancer and choreographer. Her latest theatre work was Cherry orchard (Kajaanii city theatre 2022) with director Helka-Maria Kinnunen.
2009-2010 Palmgren took part in the British councils Challenge Europe program, where she met and worked with different experts of environment and sustainabilty. This climate advogate -project was also the starting point for the The Earth Song performance.Palmgren was the member of Kedja Sustainability think tank, which aim was to provide concrete suggestions for more sustainable operational strategies within the Nordic and Baltic dance field.
